Wow we are a little delayed with our blogging because our days have been jam packed with goodness!
So on our first morning in London, V awoke with Yorkshire Terrier like excitement! After a very quick breakfast we shot out into the chilling London air for some extreme sightseeing! Filled with energy we decided to walk so as to not miss ANYTHING! We headed down past Victoria station and along Victoria road...
The first gasp took place at the foot of Westminster Abbey... This magnificent old building was dripping in history and tradition... If you closed your eyes it felt like the royals might stroll out at any moment!
Just beyond abbey stood Benjamin... This grand old clock tower together with the steeples of Westminster Abbey rise like old men overlooking the River Thames... To paint the picture... V and I standing side by side in silence with our necks hyperextended and our mouths wide open... It was just breathtakingly majestic!
Across from Benjamin stood the London eye and many more historical buildings... It was great just to browse gentle and soak up the history that surrounded us. From the Thames we headed back north towards buckingham palace and en route went through the St James Park. The scenery was beautiful al beit it a little brown and leafless... Squirrels and birds of many kinds entertained us for nearly an hour... We were particularly impressed with the three tame pelicans that were happy for the old homeless guy to give them a head tickle!
After the park we cruised up to the steps over looking Buckingham Palace and awaited the ceremonious changing of the guard. As the clock struck 11h30... The band broke the bustle of over a thousand onlookers as Bobby's shouted to clear the gates. It was beautiful and impressive. It felt like we were looking through a time warp to the 50's. I think the favorite part for both of us was definitely the perfectly manicured horses with their upstanding knights proudly seated on their backs.
After the bands rendition of mission impossible we decided to head off to lay eyes on the infamous harrods... It was incredibly busy and although old and traditional... Nothing more than an expensive shopping mall. Tired and hungry we made our way down Piccadilly Circus to find food and Ed and Caitlin!
Once fed, the four of us braved the wet cold and visited the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. It took all of about 3min before Ed and I had eyed out the craziest looking ride. A minute of persuasion later and we were hurtling towards what seemed like our demise! It lasted about 1min and had us screaming like little girls... V and Caitlin just cackled at the bottom whilst taking incriminating photos.
After the ride and a pint of beer to recover... We took a walk up regent street and did a little shopping! Once the crowds had gotten the better of us we retired to Starbucks for a recharge. Whilst here we managed to get ahold of Alex and arranged dinner with him in Shepards Bush!
A fantastic home cooked health meal was the order for the night as Alex once again put on his culinary finesse. We chatted for sometime and as the clock struck quarter past late... We headed for our tube ride back to Victoria.
It was a day filled with fun, family and friends... What more could we ask for!
